Best swim so far!

I just got back from the best swim I've had so far this season!
The weather is kind of shitty today - 55 degrees, windy, cloudy, and rain threatening to start any minute. But I managed to get out of my pjs and make it to the gym for a swim (go me!).
[Quick explanation - I'm writing a grant for work that's due Thursday. When I go into lab I get distracted and start doing experiments instead of writing so I've been staying home in the mornings to get some writing done. Which is why I was still in my pjs this morning at 10]
Redwoods on campus.
Over the hills and through the woods to the pool I go!
These pictures were actually taken on a beautiful sunny day, but you get the idea.
It was so windy today that I kind of felt like I was doing an open water swim because the water was so choppy. And thankfully, all the dopes that usually get in my lane and annoy me apparently did not want to deal with the weather today so I had the lane to myself :)
Here's the workout:

  • warmup (only 3 minutes, I was ready to go!)
  • 100m
  • 200m
  • 300m
  • 400m
  • 500m
  • 400m
  • 300m
  • 200m
  • 100m
For a total of 2500m! It took me just over 50 minutes, which is a huge improvement from where I was a month ago! In fact, the minute rests in between each set that I had planned were probably only 30 seconds or less because I felt so good. I wonder if this has anything to do with the several cups of coffee I had while writing this morning.....

New Race on the Calendar!

Finally signed up for another race!
I just registered for the Bike The West 100 mile ride in Tahoe on June 3rd! I'm really excited because my uncle did this ride last year and said it was beautiful and lots of fun! It's also a quick 3 hour drive away so the travel expenses won't be too bad. I've had a hard time finding affordable races that are close by and fit into my training schedule. But Tahoe isn't too far and it's totally worth it to kick my ass into gear and get me on that bike! The biking is the hardest part of training for me so it will be good to have a goal to train for before the big race. And I'm sure on race day it will help my confidence to know that I've knocked out 100 miles before without a problem (I hope!).

Back to work... I will update more soon, I promise! I'm a terrible blogger.

Who's going to sign up to do this ride with me?!?!
